Book club reads The Herbarium!

The Herbarium launch has been exciting and often surprising! I was especially thrilled when a book club selected The Herbarium for their June read and invited me to speak at their meeting. Even though I had to appear on Zoom, while the  group enjoyed a beautiful gathering outdoors in a member’s garden, it was so delightful! I was told that I’d be there for about thirty minutes, with maybe fifteen minutes spent on questions. So I prepared about ten minutes worth of background about me and the origins of the novel, then planned for some time to take questions. It turns out that when readers are excited about a book, thirty minutes isn’t nearly enough time. The book club members all read the book (which I was told in advance didn’t always happen). They were so interested in the characters, the story decisions and even my writing process, and had such well-prepared and thought-provoking questions, that we went on for an hour.  I wish I had a photo to share — unfortunately,  being on Zoom prevented that (although maybe if I was more tech savvy, I could have figured that out). But it was a lovely evening, and I want to thank Carol and Bonnie for inviting me to their book club. And I want to thank all the members for welcoming me and enjoying the book so much.
